The symptoms include: difficulty paying attention, impulsive behavior, and hyperactivity. Other symptoms include unstable relationships, low self-esteem, or poor work or school performance.
ADHD was known traditionally as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). The change in the coding description changed the diagnostic criteria. This effectively changed the naming conventions. This excluded ADD and added ADHD as the updated diagnosis The diagnostic criteria was changed to more effectively describe the condition. This is the current diagnostic standard and what Providers must follow for insurance billing and documentation regulations.
